Dinner with Tablas Creek Winery

WHEN: March 20, 6 p.m.

WHERE: Bankers Hill Bar + Restaurant, 2202 4th Ave., Bankers Hill

Tablas Creek is simply one of my favorite wineries in California, specializing in Rhone-style blends in the Paso Robles area. Rhone style wine is food friendly, which bodes well for this four-course pairing dinner at one of the city’s best restaurants. First course: avocado-citrus salad with goat cheese paired with a 2014 Vermintino. Second: strawberry bruschetta with Meyer-lemon-fennel marmalade, whipped Boucheron cheese and spiced almonds, paired with 2013 Patelin de Tablas (white blend with Grenache blanc, viognier, roussanne and marsanne). Third: short rib stroganoff with house-made pappardelle, sherried mushrooms and English peas, paired with 2013 Espirit de Tablas (red blend with Mourvedre, Grenache, syrah and counoise). Fourth: Butterscotch pudding with crème fraiche, pecan toffee and shortbread cookies, served with 2012 Roussanne Vin de Paille.

COST: $80

Rhythm and Brews

WHEN: April 9, 1-4 p.m.

WHERE: Downtown Vista Village, Vista

North County is where a bulk of San Diego’s craft beer brethren do their fermenting and bottling and beard-growing. Makes sense, then, that the San Diego Brewer’s Guild’s annual Rhythm & Brews bash takes over the streets of Vista, aka “Hop Highway.” There’ll be over 100 beers for tasting from over 60 local breweries. Bands will perform. Somewhere close to 2,000 craft beer fanatics will sip, ogle, and casually compete with their friends for supreme special-edition beer knowledge. It’s a party. A big one. In a street. With San Diego’s biggest modern cultural export—beer. A portion of proceeds will go to the L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. It’s also just a fundraiser for the San Diego Brewers Guild, which since 1997 has helped put the city’s craft beer on the national map.

COST: $35-$55
