I reviewed Pisco for last month’s issue of San Diego Magazine. A collaboration between Peruvian chef Emmanuel Piqueras and San Diego restaurateur Sami Ladeki, there are some real treats on the menu. But it’s these snacks, there for every diner at the table when they enter, that I could eat all day. Deep-fried and salted Peruvian corn. So addicting, so crunchy and perfect, especially when at the bar with a pisco sour or punch.

Oceanside’s food scene continues to ascend, with the latest addition an ode to Indonesian and Balinese cuisine. The laksa is a bowl full of goodness, a sort of riff on ramen with prawns, chicken, sweet-spicy Chinese sausage, curry broth, egg noodles, and soft boiled egg. The broth is thick and drinkable.

The Portland transplant in Little Italy is known for their wild flavors of ice cream, and they just released a new menu based on flowers. This light sorbet with orange blossom and edible flowers is basically spring in a cup.
