G’NIGHT: Donovan’s Prime Seafood

Donovan's seafood concept to serve final meal in Gaslamp on Dec. 23

By Troy Johnson

Donovan’s Prime Seafood has confirmed they’ll close at the end of this month. Sources say Dec. 23 will be their final meal. The large, L-shaped space on Fifh Ave (between J & K Streets) has proven tough for a few operators. Australian super-bar Bondi only lasted a couple years, before Donovan’s took it over and turned it into a supper club called Circle of Fifths. In 2011 they switched focus to Donovan’s Prime Seafood and hired Kemar Durfield, the right-hand man under William Bradley at the Grand Del Mar. It was a big hire, but Durfield left after a year. And now the group is calling it a day on the space. No word yet on who will take over the lease. Donovan’s still has their steakhouse around the corner in Downtown, plus locations in La Jolla and Phoenix.
