Symphony Announces the 4th Annual Girls Night Out

The San Diego Symphony is planning for the 4th annual “girls night out” (men welcome) to be held on Apr. 8 at the ResMed office building in Kearny Mesa. The event is chaired by Lori Walton, Joyce Glazer and Lisette Farrell and includes a silent auction of designer items and experiences, live music, wine and hors d oevres. All proceeds will go to support the educational and outreach programs developing the potential of the children in our community through promoting appreciation and participation in music education. Sponsors include ResMed as the Title Sponsor and Margaret’s Couture Cleaners and San Diego Magazine as additional sponsors.

San Diego Museum of Art is presenting Culture & Cocktails: Havana Nights on Feb. 5. The evening includes live musical performances and sights of Havana, Cuba. It is inspired by the Museum’s acquisitions of Cuban Contemporary art

Jewish Family Service Mitzvah Award Honorees

Jewish Family Service announced the 2015 Mitzvah Award Honorees.  Ernest & Evelyn Rady, Ron Zollman and Susan G. Komen, San Diego will be recognized at the Heart and Soul Gala which will be held on Mar. 28 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. Their community leadership, investments in the JFS mission and advocacy on behalf of the organization, will be acknowledged at the Gala.

Go Red for Women – AHA

Go Red for Women – AHA

The 2015 Go Red For Women Luncheon will be held on Feb. 27 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association’s annual Go Red campaign. The focus of the luncheon is to focus on the fight against heart disease in women, heightening awareness and generating funds to support education and research. Macy’s is the National sponsor and UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is the local sponsor.

Union Bank La Jolla Village Square Branch held a ribbon-cutting celebration surrounding the opening of the branch on Jan. 28. To honor its commitment to the La Jolla community, Union Bank presented donations to the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic for the medical services it provides to the underserved; the VA San Diego Healthcare System for its homeless veterans initiatives, and to the all-volunteer UCSD Pep Band for its engagement with the student community.

The 18th Annual Heart of San Diego Gala is being held on Feb. 7 at the Park Hyatt Aviara. Ken Buechler, co- founder of Biosite Inc., is being honored at the Gala. All proceeds benefit UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center’s research, clinical care and training programs.

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center raised $21,000 at its Tea by the Sea held on Jan. 24 at The Marine Room. Proceeds will benefit the Culinary Arts Program.

Alliance Group Real Estate Service presented a $10,000 check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County on Jan. 28 in celebration of National Mentoring Month. National Mentoring Month brings attention to the need for mentors, as well as how individuals, businesses, government agencies and others can work together to increase the number of mentors available to help young people succeed. Glen Henderson and Shannon Keatley, owners of Alliance Group presented the check to support Operation Bigs. “San Diego is home to the largest concentration of military activity in the world, making Operation Bigs very dear to our hearts” Henderson said.

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, Higgs Fletcher & Mack, has surpassed its 2014 “7,500-Hour Volunteer Challenge” goal. The challenge was presented to employees to give back to the San Diego community as part of the firm’s 75th Anniversary celebration. Some of the organizations supported by employees included USO downtown, Women’s Resource Fair and Ronald McDonald House.

The 43rd Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights, a standing tradition in the San Diego Bay, announced its winners at the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights Award Dinner held at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse on Jan. 8, 2015. Winners included: Best of Parade “Star of India”, Perpetual Cup Seafarer; International Award, Dolphin; Best San Diego Port Tenant’s Entry, Maverick.
