Bartell Hotels, McGuire Research and Torrey Pines Bank were sponsors along with 101 Things to Do in San Diego, of the USD 6th Annual Wine Classic.  Board President Mark Hoekstra and USD President Mary Lyons welcomed the 700 guests who attend this year’s Wine Classic which featured gourmet food stations, live music and auctions for wine-related items. The $65,000 raised will go toward the USD Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The Seacrest Village Retirement Communities’ annual 211 Club Patron Recognition Party was held on July 13 at the home of Lee and Frank Goldberg. The 130 contributors to the 211 Club are committed to the charitable mission of Seacrest Village which is to care for those who have nowhere else to turn for help. Jeffrey Strauss, owner and executive chef of Pamplemousse Grille catered a gourmet dinner for those in attendance.

The 13th annual Shoot to Cure HD was held on June 15 in a private airplane hangar at Landmark Aviation. The event which raised $47,000 for the San Diego Chapter of Huntington’s  Disease Society of America, was presented by Cymer, Qualcomm and Peggy and Eric Johnson. Proceeds will help fund ongoing research and education toward finding a cure, and provide support services for those living with Huntington’s disease. The event is a speed free-throw shooting competition and food and beverage festival. Sponsors included Jack in the Box Foundation, QCMI, KUSI, NBC 7/39 and Range Rover.

G/M Business Interiors is presenting the Sixth Annual Tables for Tots for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego, on Aug. 14. San Diego architecture and design firms create one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that will be auctioned off to benefit families with critically ill or injured children. The funds raised will help provide services such as meals, lodging and emotional support. Company participants in the table design include Augustine Design Group/Spooner’s Woodworking, AVRP Studios, Carrier Johnson + Culture, Design Institute of San Diego. Judges will rate entries on playability, creativity, imagination and structural integrity. Awards will be presented to winning designers following the auction.

Employees of McCarthy Building Companies teamed with a group of consultants and subcontractors to give the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego a new STEM Lab and outdoor garden area at its Ron Roberts Family Branch in Linda Vista. The new STEM Lab features flooring, walls, built-in desks and cabinetry. BGCGSD President Danny Sherlock said  “The early adoption and hands-on training of STEM education will help our members be comfortable with principles of STEM trades, thus making an easier transition to a STEM-related field of study in secondary education or as a career option.

San Diego Humane Society Fur Ball

San Diego Humane Society’s 29th Annual Fur Ball is being held on Aug. 16 at SDHS SPCA location on Gaines St. Chuck and Pilar Bahde will be honored for their contributions to the animals in our community. Funds raised will support the SDHS and SPCA in continuing its mission to promote the humane treatment of animals, prevent cruelty to animals and provide education to enhance the human-animal bond.

Tom Woolway of Torrey Pines Bank and Mark Klaus, HGH

Home of Guiding Hands has named Torrey Pines Bank their 2014 Community Partner of the Year. Tom Woolway from the Carmel Valley branch accepted the award on behalf of Torrey Pines Bank during the organization’s annual meeting. HGH provides services to 1,000 children, adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities.

The CPA firm, RBTK raised $14,000 at its third annual charity golf tournament held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course. The beneficiaries of the proceeds were Wounded Warriors and Bayside Community Center. RBTK Managing Partner, Kevin Brown, presented the Wounded Warriors their check in front of the chapter’s new offices. “We hope the funds will go to continue their programs for veterans. Bayside Community Center is another deserving organization, and we are happy to show our support,” said Brown.
