National Conflict Resolution Center’s 29th Annual Peacemaker Awards

The National Conflict Resolution Center’s 29th Annual Peacemaker Awards was held on April 8 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. The organization honored individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution to conflict resolution nationally and locally. Those recognized were: Southern Poverty Law Center, Bill and Lori Walton, and Rachel’s Challenge. The event is projected to raise $574,950 to support NCRC’s groundbreaking programming, including the Galinson Campus Civility Project.

Grossmont Hospital Foundation Annual Invitational Golf Tournament is being held on April 20 at the Sycuan Golf Resort. Sponsors include EDCO, a Waste & Recycling Company, PLUM Healthcare Group, Ensign Services, Cisco, Dimension Data and IBM. Proceeds will benefit patient programs and services.

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum's spring benefit, “Oceania”

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum held its annual spring benefit, “Oceania”, on April 2. The event raised $70,000 for PlayLAB Exhibit Innovation and for Access for All Initiatives to provide field trip and Mobile Children’s Museum scholarships. The funds will also provide scholarships, complimentary admissions, and family memberships to underserved children and families. The Title Sponsor for the event was the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians.

The YWCA In the Company of Women is being held on April 25 at Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. The Keynote Speaker is Angelique Kidjo, grammy-winning singer, activist and humanitarian. All proceeds will benefit transformational programs for women, men, and children overcoming domestic violence and homelessness.

San Diego Museum of Art’s 36th annual Art Alive, Bloom Bash, will hold the opening celebration on April 28. The event kicks off Art Alive, the spring exhibition where floral designers create floral interpretations of the museum’s famous works of art.

Voices for Children held its 25th annual Fostering hope Golf Classic on March 26-27. The tournament was held at La Jolla Country Club and presented by Dowling & Yahnke Wealth Management. The event began with a cocktail party on March 26 presented by Holly and David Bruce. The event raised $320,000 to support VFC’s CASA program providing one-on-one advocacy to San Diego County foster children. Sponsors included the Farrell Family Foundation, AlphaCore Capital, Cooley, MG Properties Group, Qualcomm, the Scarano Family Foundation and L+L Printers.

Voices for Children Golf Classic

Girl Scouts San Diego presented Cool Women of 2017 on April 4 at Paradise Point Hotel. Those being recognized were Mary Jean Anderson, Marcela Celorio, Carol Rowell Council, Phyllis Epstein, Felena Hanson, Lorie Hearn, Patty Maysent, Brittney Reese, Lynn Schenk and Wendy Urushima-Conn. Mission Federal Credit Union was the Gold Sponsor and KPBS and SDG&E, Southwest Airlines and Paradise Point Resort were also partners. Event proceeds will help keep Girl Scouting available and affordable for 35,000 local members.

Jim Mulvaney, Jr. and Ausgar Technologies are being honored by Volunteers of America Southwest’s Annual Anniversary Celebration on April 20 at the Coronado Community Center. They are being recognized for their passion for service. Rezcare Pharmacy is a sponsor.

On April 29, the sixth annual fundraiser to benefit the SEAL Family Foundation which will thank the Naval Special Warfare community and their families for their military service, and honors their fallen heroes, is being held. The golf tournament and dinner gala will be at Del Mar Country Club, and is sponsored by Bumble Bee Tuna, Wells Fargo, NetJets, Doug Allred Company, Pamplemousse Grille and Innovative Capital.
