The Salvation Army El Cajon received a $1 million matching gift from the Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation to build a $5.4 million social services facility, helping assist 1,500 families in East County every month. The first phase of the project will feature a client-choice food pantry, classrooms & kitchen for life skills classes. The client-choice pantry will allow those in need to choose the food that is best for their family. “The Salvation Army is a wonderful organization and we’re confident that our donation will be used to make a difference in our community,” said Warren Magill, President of the Zable Foundation.

ElderHelp celebrated 42 years of supporting seniors on Mar. 20 at the Southwestern Yacht Club. George Mitrovich was recognized as Inspirational Senior. Southwestern Yacht Club was honored as Corporate Partner. Belen Ybarrondo was recognized for extraordinary devotion as a volunteer. Sponsors included SDG&E, Sycuan Casino, Robins Geller Rudman & Dowd,, Judith Wenker and the 2-1-1 Connection Center. The event raised $40,000 to help provide vital services to seniors in San Diego.

CUSO Financial Services and Sorrento Pacific Financial has been honored by the Bank Insurance & Securities Association at the BISA annual conference held March 15-18 in Hollywood, Florida. The BISA Technology Innovation Award recognizes leadership in the advancement of financial service industry products, services and platforms through technology innovation.

Nurturley, Inc., a children’s oral health company, donated Soft Chomp toothbrush and book sets to YWCA of San Diego County and its Becky’s House domestic violence program, in honor of Workd Oral Health Day on Mar. 20.

EDCO Disposal Corporation, The Ensign Group and Plum Healthcare Group, are the Title sponsors of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation’s 32nd Annual Invitational Golf Tournament scheduled for Apr. 21 at Sycuan Resort. The tournament helps raise funds to improve health care for the community by increasing hospital capacity, purchasing new technology and supporting programs at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.

Meals-on-Wheels San Diego has received a $20,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s eighth annual “Share the Love” campaign. During event held from November 20, 2015 through January 2, 2016, Subaru of America, donated $250 for every new Subaru purchased to the customers’ choice of participating charities. An additional grant of $15,500 was awarded from Kearny Mesa Subaru in San Diego from customers who selected the MOWGSD as their local charity of choice.

United Through Reading received the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s inaugural Community Service Award at a ceremony at Joint-Base Myer-Henderson Hall on National Medal of Honor Day on Mar. 25. “We are incredibly humbled by this experience and to be the first recipient of this award,” said Sally Ann Zoll, United Through Reading CEO.

The Fred B. Luddy Family Foundation is the Presenting Sponsor of the 2016 SPARK GALA benefitting UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. The event is being held on Apr. 16 at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. All proceeds raised benefit clinical care and research programs.

The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation is hosting its fourth annual Aces for Health golf tournament on Apr. 18 at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. The funds raised will be used to serve medically underserved San Diegans and recognize health heroes who are making a difference in the San Diego community. “Those without health insurance would not get help they desperately need without the care of the medical community, and we are happy to be able to acknowledge a few of the super stars each year,” said Barbara Mandel, Executive Director of SDCMS Foundation. The Health Heroes Awards ceremony will honor individuals and agencies that bring the nonprofit’s mission to life.
