Ken Early won the Ford F150 donated by Fuller Ford & Honda with a Hole in One at the San Diego Invitational Tournament held May 6 at La Jolla Country Club. The event raised $150,000 for the American Cancer Society. Funds will be used for research to cure cancer and for free patient programs. The Associate Sponsor was Sycuan Casino & Resort and the Mission Sponsor was Celgene. San Diego Magazine was the media sponsor.

To celebrate Earth Day, Gelson’s Market presented the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy with a $5,000 donation to support its conservation, education and recreation programs. The check was presented to Trish Boaz, Executive Director on Apr 12. The Conservance was chosen due to the proximity to Gelson’s new Del Mar location and the importance of the work the Conservancy performs in North County.

The SEAL Naval Special Warfare Family Foundation fifth annual fundraiser was held on Apr. 30 and raised $1.2 million. The SEAL-NSW Family Foundation raises funds and awareness for programs supporting the NSW families. Event Co-Chair, Madeleine Pickens, said “We are proud of our sponsors. Without their generosity and their desire to help these brave warrriors, we could not have raised the funds we did.”  Sponsors included Del Mar Country Club, Jacqui and Colin Paterson, Ferrari of San Diego, Hoehn Motors, Jenny Craig, ResMed/Farrell Family Foundation and Wells Fargo.

4S Ranch-Del Sur Community Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation held its 9th Annual Grants Celebration on May 6. Grants were given to four nonprofits as follows: Robotics with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, $6,000; Studio 39 program with The Design 39C Collaborative, $8,500; Citizen Science, Wildlife Monitoring program with the Zoological Society of San Diego, $8,570; and S.T.E.M. Lab Expansion with Stone Ranch Elementary School, $9,878.

“Through these grants, we are building a better community in 4SRanch and Del Sur to support current and future generations, said Deanne Hormovitis, Grants Committee Chair for 4SCF.

Former Major League Baseball Commissioner and Olympic Committee Chairman Peter Ueberroth was honored for his lifelong contributions on May 7 at the Hilton Torrey Pines Hotel.

Celebrates dinner benefits underserved youth championed by Pro Kids/The First Tee of San Diego. “Pro Kids is proud to recognize Peter for his lifelong commitment to sports and sportsmanship,” said Keith Padgett of Pro Kids.

The 25th annual Mama’s Day was held on May 6 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. The event was presented by Nordstrom and hosted by Sycuan. Proceeds raised support Mama’s Kitchen’s mission to deliver hot, nutrition-specific meals free of charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS or cancer.

OASIS Fashion Show

San Diego OASIS held a Fashion Show fundraiser on May 7. Models included members aged 65 to 90 years old. The event raised $9,000 to support the San Diego OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring/Mentoring Program that provides literacy tutoring in schools around San Diego County. Sponsors included Macy’s Mission Valley, California Hair Design Academy of La Mesa and Winning Images International.

The New Children’s Museum received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and its Art Works program to support the Museum’s planned “maker space” installation called Innovator Lab.  Innovator Lab will be a hands-on interactive studio that will offer an array of art materials, basic tools, and prompts for creative, open-ended, skill-building activities.  Other donors to this project include Hunter Industries, Genentech, ResMed Foundation, Lockheed Martin, Kinder Morgan and General Atomics.

San Diego Symphony hosted its annual Partner with a Player on May 19 on honor of the orchestra’s donors and its musicians. Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille catered the dinner in the lobby of Symphony Towers and then the Partners joined the Players on stage with the Symphony while enjoying the music led by music director Jahja Ling. To become a Partner With A Player member, the donation range is $15,000 to $150,000.
