Peter Farrell, Founder and Chairman of ResMed, has been selected as the “Person of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. Farrell is recognized for his support of BBBS of SDC and for his philanthropy and community leadership in San Diego. He will be recognized at the 53rd Annual Gourmet Dinner to be held on Oct. 29 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine.

Deborah Condon, BBBS of SDC’s President and CEO said, “Peter is known for his investments in products and services that demonstrate positive outcomes related to people’s health, education and well-being.

Richard Nares, executive director of the Emilio Nares Foundation was selected as a 2015 honoree of “the one hundred” at the eighth annual gala held on May 26 at the Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston. The one hundred was created and is supported by Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. 100 individuals and groups from around the globe are recognized for their commitment to the fight against cancer. ENF helps navigate families through their child’s journey with cancer and ensures no child misses a cancer treatment due to lack of transportation.

Promises 2 Kids is holding its 2015 Concert Gala with Bonnie Raitt on June 8 at the estate of Joan Waitt in La Jolla. The event is being presented y Kevin Prior and ICW Group Insurance Companies. Major sponsors include Marc-Aaron Realtors, Southwest Airlines, Gatto, Pope, Walwick, Dowling & Yahnke, Jackson Goodall and Robert O’Connell. Proceeds support Promises2Kids programs to create a brighter future for foster children.

Wine Women & Shoes benefiting Voices for Children was held on May 16 at the home of Marina Marrelli. The $153,000 raised will allow for CASA’s to 61 foster children, and also assess and triage the case files of 245 other foster children. The event was made possible by Cox, First American Title, The Ellis Family Foundation, Hughes Marino, KPBS and Fidelity Investments. VFC announced their next fundraiser “Starry Starry Night” is set for Sept. 19 and is being chaired by Stephanie Bergsma and Dwight Hare.

Walter Fegley, Robert Gleason, Orville Kolterman and Kevin Sayer will be honored with Father of the Year Awards on June 11 at Hyatt Regency La Jolla. The event is presented by the Father’s Day Council benefiting the American Diabetes Association. The Council honors fathers who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives, to serve as a role model for their children, and to help make a positive difference in their community.

Miracles in Innovation, 2015 Miracle Makers Gala is being held on June 6 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Proceeds will benefit the Rady Pediatric Genomics and Systems Medicine Institute of Rady Children’s Hospital.

Sycuan Golf Resort is hosting the San Diego Opera Golf Tournament on June 12. The event is a continuation of the Opera’s 50th Anniversary season and will help the Opera thrive and continue to be a viable part of the San Diego Community.

The 32nd annual Wine & Roses Charity Wine Tasting was held on June 7 at the Grand Del Mar Hotel. The event is sponsored by the Social Service Auxiliary of San Diego and the San Diego International Wine Competition. Proceeds will benefit youth summer camp, Camp Oliver located in Descanso, CA. The goal was to raise $100,000 to help children who may not otherwise be able to attend a summer camp.

Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego has received a $30,000 van donation from Caesars Foundation and Harrah’s Resort Southern California. The new vehicle will replace the current delivery van that will be retired due to wear-and-tear and high mileage. MOW delivers to San Diego County 3,100 seniors throughout the year. This is the second vehicle donated by Caesars Foundation to MOW.
