The Cohn Restaurant Group and David and Lesley Cohn will be awarded the National Restaurant Association’s “Restaurant Neighbor” award on Apr. 29 at a gala in Washington D.C. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation sponsors the Restaurant Neighbor and Faces of Diversity American Dream award winners. The Foundations Restaurant Neighbor Award, developed in partnership with American Express celebrates the outstanding charitable service performed by restaurant operators. The Faces of Diversity American Dream award I sponsored by PepsiCo Foodservice. The Cohns will receive a $5,000 contribution to continue supporting their charitable initiatives such as the Garfield High School Foundation which gives back to at-risk students through a culinary arts program at the continuation high school.

The 14th Annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon SuperHeroes for Youth is being held on May 2 at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center. Chargers and Padres players along with other community leaders will wait on tables.   Every dollar raised through the annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon helps STAR/PAL keep kids safe, in school, and away from crime & violence. STAR/PAL officers from the San Diego Police & County Probation Departments provide unique youth programming in underserved communities, empowering at-risk youth to build a safer and more prosperous community by engaging with law enforcement and other collaborative partners.

Celebrity Waiter Luncheon SuperHeroes for Youth

Union Bank has been named the 2013 Top Heart Walk Fundraising Team in the country by the American Heart Association. Union Bank has supported the AHA’s mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, for 30 years and is currently a regional sponsor of the AHA’s My Heart. My Life. Healthy living initiative.

The San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross donated 20,000 emergency meals to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Local organizations will be receiving between 300-5000 meals each for distribution. The organizations kicked off the donation at Presbyterian Urban Ministries where nearly 20 individuals lined up to receive the meals.

Susan G.Komen San Diego awarded grants to local breast health programs on Apr. 10 at AMN Healthcare. The grants will provide free diagnostic mammograms, life-saving screenings, surgeries, temporary financial aid for living expenses, meal deliveries, education, outreach, research for  women in San Diego County. The funds were raised through the efforts of San Diegans participating in Komen’s annual special events such as the Race for the Cure.

Walk for Wishes benefiting the Make- A- Wish Foundation is being held on Apr. 26 at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. Wish families will walk in honor, remembrance and celebration of the Wish Kids in San Diego. Major sponsors include Samsung, Spinal Elements, Ashford University and Trusted Choice Independent Insurance Agent.

The St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center held its 16th Annual Morning Glory Brunch on Apr. 12 in the Center’s garden in El Cajon. More than $45,000 was raised. All proceeds benefit adults with developmental disabilities attending St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.

Gap intelligence is hosting its annual Drives For Rides golf tournament on May 2 at Riverwalk Golf Club. Emilio Nares Foundation is the beneficiary of the proceeds from the event. Richard Nares, co-founder of the organization was selected as a “Top 10 CNN Hero” in 2013. The Foundation is dedicated to helping navigate families through their child’s journey with cancer.

The 3rd Annual Wine Women & Shoes benefiting Voices for Children is being held on May 3 at the Clubhouse in the Cielo Community of Rancho Santa Fe. Sponsors include Party City, Cox and Vuka Energy Drinks. Fashion Marketplace, Winery Partners and Catering Partners are also participating.

The San Diego Rescue Mission’s Annual Easter Feast was held on Apr. 12 serving 1,000 homeless men, women and children. Volunteers served these individuals and also offered personal necessities such as t-shirts, socks, towels, shampoo, soap and lotion.

The La Jolla Playhouse Gala was held on Mar. 29 celebrating 30 years of theatre at the institution since the rebirth of the Playhouse on the UC San Diego campus. The evening included an overview and video of the Playhouse’s production history season over the past 30 years, including 24 productions that transferred to Broadway, earning 35 Tony Awards. The Gala was the most successful in Playhouse history raising $700,000 just in the paddle-raise portion of the evening, to support the education and outreach programs of the Playhouse.
