Seacrest Village 2012 Honorees

The 35th Annual Women’s Auxiliary Gala benefiting Seacrest Village Retirement Communities is being held on Apr. 13 at Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines.  The annual gala raises funds to benefit Seacrest Village’s Resident Assistance Fund, supporting the scholarship program for current and future residents who have depleted their financial resources. The evening will celebrate the many residents and families whose lives have been transformed as a result of the care and services they receive at Seacrest Village.

A Ribbon Cutting and Open House Reception was held on Apr. 1 at the LifeSpring House which provides a home, hope, and life skills to former foster youth ages 18 to 24 as they transition to independent living.  North County Lifeline partnered with HomeAid San Diego to build the House, which offers 5 beds with the plan to reach 10 beds by May 2013. HomeAid facilitated the renovation of the new facility, and secured donations and resources from Hallmark communities, BIA Cares, General Electric, Schlage County Supervisor Bill Horn and the Leichtag Foundation.

San Diego Police Department Captain Lori Luhnow, Former FBI Special Agent Donna Pence, and SDPD Supervising Crime Analyst Karen Goodman were honored at the 2013 Women in Blue Luncheon on Mar. 13 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. Women in Blue, a program of the San Diego Police Foundation, raised $45,000 to support its work: funding vital equipment, training and outreach programs for the SDPD. Event sponsors included Wells Fargo who sponsored the Scholarship Award, La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic and O.P.I.

2013 Women in Blue Honorees and Scholar

Girl Scouts San Diego will honor 10 Cool Women on Apr. 19 at the Del Mar Country Club. Madeleine Pickens and the Del Mar Country Club will host the luncheon. This is the 13th year Girl Scouts has honored exemplary women whose personal and professional achievements, leadership and service to the community make them consummate role models for girls.

The 5th Annual Ladies Luncheon and Leslie Petrone Women Who Take Our Breath Away Awards is being held on Apr. 18 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel. Six women who are mothers of children with cystic fibrosis, clinicians and business professionals that helps to make the CF community stronger.

The San Diego Building Owners & Managers Association raised $6,500 for the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb. With a goal of raising $3,500, BOMA’s team far exceeded its target and earned the top spot as number one fundraising team in San Diego. The funds raised will enable the American Lung Association to continue its work to educate kids on how to manage their asthma and not use tobacco; research cures and treatments for lung cancer and other lung diseases; and to advocate for better local, state, and national policies to protect communities from the harmful effects of air pollution and secondhand smoke.

Alzheimer’s Reagan/Thai Legacy Award Honoree

The Artistic Team from ArtReach and volunteers from AmeriCorps VIP teamed up on Mar. 27 to celebrate the work of Cesar Chavez with the students in the Prime Time Program at Washington Elementary School in Little Italy. “This was a perfect way to help students learn about César Chávez and to demonstrate giving back to the community,” says Judy Berman Silbert, Executive Director of ArtReach.

The Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter raised $150,000 at its 16th annual Memories in the Making Art Auction on Mar. 15 at the University of San Diego. The money is used for local support and research. Sponsors included Dr. Seuss Foundation, Darlene Shiley, Silverado Living, Vi at La Jolla Village, SDG&E, Eli Lily and First American Trust. Gail Levin was the Reagan/Thai Legacy Award honoree.
