Starry Starry Night, the fundraising event of Voices for Children, was held on Sept. 24 at the San Diego Polo Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The event raised $1.064 million to provide CASA volunteers to 426 abused, neglected children living in foster care. Gold sponsors of the gala included the Farrell Family Foundation, Hughes Marino, Morrison & Foerster, and George Lai. Bronze Sponsors included Cox Communications, Delta Air Lines, Genentech, KPBS, L+L Printers, The San Diego Foundation and Wells Fargo Advisors.

The Home Depot Foundation is granting $500,000 to Vietnam Veterans Village of San Diego to construct 48 permanent supportive housing units at Escondido Veterans Apartments for chronically homeless veterans and veteran families. In addition, this funding will assist in the preservation of six additional apartments for a total of 54 units in San Diego County. The project will be completed in 2017.

Workshops for Warriors received a $50,000 grant from Boeing. The grant is crucial in allowing WFW to support workforce development by providing quality training, accredited STEM educational programs and opportunities to earn third-party nationally recognized credential.

ARC of San Diego received a $20,000 contribution  from AT&T. The grant will be used for the ARC’s workforce development program and to support their clients including children and adults with disabilities.

The American Society of Landscape Architects held its 37th annual golf tournament on Sept. 19 at the Loma Santa Fe Country Club raised $15,000 for the chapter’s community grant program. Additionally, some of the funds raised will be awarded to an “Emerging Professional” or a “Student Member” to attend an ASLA SD or ASLA national event. Sponsors were Coast Recreation, Inc., and Rain Bird Corporation.

The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties held the 14th Annual Real Heroes Breakfast aboard the USS Midway Museum on Oct. 7. The event raised $130,000 for ARC. The 2016 Real Heroes are recognized for their bravery and selflessness and have done extraordinary things – from saving lives to working to create safer and stronger communities. A few of those heroes are: Jim and Robin Madaffer; Amy Silveira; Ready Carlsbad Business Alliance; and Joshua Cardona, USMC – Military Honoree.

The City Ballet of San Diego ‘s 24th Anniversary Gala is presenting IlluminAsia on Oct. 22 at the Hotel del Coronado. Actress and singer Lesley Ann Warren is Celebrity Honorary Chair and Rita Steel is Gala Chair. Proceeds help fund educational and outreach programs such as the “Discover a Dancer” program, reaching over 10,000 children annually.

Miracle Babies has entered into a brand partnership with AMAG Pharmaceuticals. AMAG is donating $25,000 to Miracle Babies’ signature programs that raise awareness, educate and improve the lives of the families the organization serves. “This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to improving the lives of women and their families,” said Sean Daneshmand, founder of Miracle Babies.
