The 30th Anniversary Gala of Grossmont Hospital Foundation was held on Nov. 14 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Presenting sponsors were Glenn Napierskie Family and Sharp Grossmont Hospital Medical Staff. In addition to the $300,000 raised toward the capital campaign goal, a $2 million pledge from East County philanthropists Ron and Mary Alice Brady, was announced to bring the total for the capital campaign to $10 million which was the goal. The funds will go toward the hospital’s new Heart and Vascular Center slated to open in 2017. “We believe in the work done at the hospital and we want to make it as good as it can be for everyone in East County,” said Ron Brady.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego volunteers
The Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation, the Farrell Family Foundation and the Parker Foundation are granting a total of $56,500 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego to help provide free meals for families caring for critically ill or injured children at local hospitals. The Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation and Farrell Family Foundation are providing core support to fund what is not donated. The Parker Foundation donated $24,000 for dishwashers and recycling efforts, including food waste recycling.
Sempra Energy and San Diego Habitat for Humanity built a home with donated materials during Habitat’s Home Builders Blitz in 2014. Sempra Energy employees volunteered to construct the single-family home and the company donated $200,000 to subsidize construction. On Nov. 18 the first family, a U.S. Veteran and his wife who is expecting their first child, moved into the home located on North Elm Street in Escondido.

AT&T Aspire supports san diego students
On Nov. 10 AT&T revealed its “flash funded” projects were fulfilled, benefiting 19,400 San Diego students with a total contribution of $130,000. “We are thrilled to support these students as part of our ongoing commitment to education through AT&T Aspire and to military communities,” said Ken McNeely, President of AT&T California. AT&T Aspire is the company’s signature education initiative that invests in students at home, in the classroom, and at work, to prepare them for success tomorrow.
NBC 7 San Diego in partnership with the NBCUniversal Foundation is donating a total of $100,000 as part of the 21st Century Solutions grant challenge. Elementary Institute of Science will receive $50,000; Friends of the Water Conservation Garden will receive $25,000; and San Diego Air & Space Museum will receive $25,000. “We are dedicated to harnessing the power of all of our platforms to make a positive difference in the communities we serve,” said Richard Kelley, President and General Manager, NBC 7 San Diego.

Wawanesa Insurance has established a donations program to support the San Diego community. Those receiving contributions are: The New Children’s Museum, $14,000; San Diego State University.$41,000; Rady Children’s Hospital, $24,000; Casa de Amparo, $28,000; Arc of San Diego $54,000. The newly created program was established to award funds to organizations seeking to make an extraordinary mark on the community.

Serving Seniors served its 10 millionth meal on november 9th
Serving Seniors served its 10 millionth meal on Nov. 9 at Serving Seniors’ West Wellness Senior Center. Mayor Kevin Faulconer and County Supervisor Ron Roberts served the first of the next 10 million meals. Fir 45 years, Serving Seniors has been providing meals to their clients as well as delivers wrap-around wellness services, to take care of senior health, mental health, advocacy and housing needs.
The Autism Tree Project Foundation won an additional $5,000 from Cox Cares Foundation after receiving 25,000 online votes as part of the Cox Cares $5k Giveaway. Last October, 10 organizations were awarded a $15,000 grant each. The funds will go toward programs that focus on youth, education, military veterans and conservation.

Paul Scott Silverra and SCOUT Staging has teamed up with Home Start with a donation of $3,000 worth of SCOUT Staging materials to be sold at Home Start’s Thrift Boutique in Normal Heights. Proceeds from the thrift boutique will go back into Home Start’s programs and services. “With SCOUT’s help, we will continue to provide assistance to our most vulnerable families in need,” said Laura Mustari, Home Start CEO.
