Taste of Africa Cooking Classes
Learn to cook traditional West and East African dishes at cooking classes hosted by Women's Empowerment International on July 10th and 17th.

Women’s Empowerment International is introducing cooking classes to benefit its STAR Center. Chefs Olivia Laryea of Ghana and Hasno Ali of Somalia will each teach two classes featuring the foods of their home countries.
On July 10, join Chef Olivia for the food of West Africa. There are two classes that day, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m.
On July 17, join Chef Hasno for the food of East Africa. The two classes also run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m.
All classes will include printed recipes, samples of the food prepared, and light refreshments. Suggested donation for one class is $50 for STAR Center members and $60 for the public. The suggested donation for two classes is $90/$110. All proceeds benefit the STAR Center, which is Women’s Empowerment International’s one-stop business incubator for refugee women in City Heights.
The project is a partnership between WE and the International Rescue Committee. Classes will be held at Center for a Healthy Lifestyle in Solana Beach . The address is 533 Lomas Santa Fe Dr. in Solana Beach. You can buy tickets online or call 858-486-6466.
