At Least 10 Things You Can Do With Za'atar

 

Za’atar (also spelled zaatar, zatar, and zatr) is a fragrant Middle Eastern spice mixture dating back to at least the 13th century. The exact components vary depending on the culture. Most commonly, za’atar contains sumac, sesame seeds, thyme, and oregano, but could also contain dried orange zest or dried dill, sage, mint, marjoram, or savory.

There are so many ways you can eat Za'atar...

  • Put it to use topping a traditional Lebanese fattoush salad of tomatoes and ripped pita.
  • Blend it with olive oil to make a paste and smear it on a favorite flat bread.
  • Add it to an omelet with feta, to yogurt or labne.
  • Use it as a seasoning for roast chicken or lamb or baked swordfish.
  • I sprinkle it over roasted...
