Everday Eats: Grilled Cheese Sandwich from Urban Solace

Urban Solace
Grilled Cheese Sandwich: $9.50
3823 30th St., North Park

Let's face it, often the three most important parts of the day are breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And that's why here at SanDiegoMagazine.com, we're beefing up our food and restaurant coverage by shining the spotlight on tasty meals under $10. Foie gras and Kobe beef still have a place at our table, but these meals are so reasonably priced, you can eat them every day.

Urban Solace is all about American comfort food, and you can't get much cozier than dunking a grilled cheese sandwich in some tomato soup. In the case of this particular grilled cheese, there are some gourmet upgrades, including four types of cheese (typically mozzarella, white cheddar, fontina, and cambozola), plus fresh basil and juicy roma tomatoes, which do a great job of cutting the sharpness of the cheese. Other fancy touches include a touch of fennel in the creamy tomato soup (and a crunchy crouton on top) and fresh herbs on the Kennebec fries.

Best yet, this 'which that's big on taste (and low in cost) is available on the lunch, dinner, and brunch (both Saturday and Sunday) menus, so you can order it any time of day. If you're visiting for brunch on the weekend, consider splitting it with someone else so you can splurge for a home-made buttermilk cinnamon roll topped with cream cheese icing. When you see the size of the roll, you'll be glad you're sharing an entree.
