Drink This: Bloody Mary Superior from Small Bar

Drink This: Bloody Mary Superior from Small Bar

Weekend brunches are better when paired with a good cocktail and mimosas seem to be the standard offering. But these days, when I think of brunch boozing, I am drawn to Small Bar in University Heights and their Bloody Mary.

Small Bar’s Bloody Mary Superior is served in a pint glass and crafted with their own house-made Bloody Mary mix, Guinness, steak sauce and a house-infused chili/garlic vodka, garnished with chili salt. The garnish starts off with the standard items (celery and carrot), and then things start getting ridiculous. Other items piled on the skewer include pickled green beans, beer candied bacon, shrimp, and stuffed olives, plus a cocktail onion, peperocini, cherry tomato, pickle, and  mushroom. If that weren’t enough, a bag of hot and spicy pork rinds comes on the side.

Practically a meal on its own, this Bloody Mary is well worth its $8 price tag. But, as a bonus, each brunch item on the food menu at Small Bar comes served with a beverage of choice, including this very drink.  So, for $15, you can get a plate of food (I’m partial to the Lil’ Soul dish of fried chicken and waffles) and this knock-your-socks-off Bloody Mary.

Small Bar serves their Bloody Mary on Saturday and Sunday only and opens at 10 am. I can’t think of a better way to kick off a weekend.
