Beer of the Week: July 26

Societe The Debutante

Societe Brewing The Debutante

Societe The Debutante Belgian Amber Ale (6.9% ABV)

When this new addition to the San Diego craft beer scene announced they’d be producing a Belgian family of beers, most expected the usual—wits, dubbels, tripels. Three Belgos in, they have yet to make any of those. First came a low-alcohol singel, then a dark strong ale. Now, this medium-bodied amber ale that blends the easy-drinking nature of the singel with the malty, flowery character of its darker cousin. The initial batch is tasting good, but expect this beer to really hit its stride when the season it's best suited for—autumn—rolls around. This brew will go great with yams, turkey, stuffing and pumpkin everything, but for now it’s delicious all on its own.

Available at: Like any good deb’, this one was around when Mayor Jerry Sanders and several hundred of Societe’s fans descended on the Kearny Mesa brewery for its grand opening party. She’s sure to make the rounds around town, but for now, the best place to get a gander at her is at Societe’s new, nicely furnished, visitor-friendly tasting room (8262 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, www.societebrewing.com).
