Amplified Ale Works Electrocution India Pale Ale (7.2% ABV)
Pacific Beach’s California Kebab (4150 Mission Blvd., #208), version 2.0 of a popular spot near SDSU, has been popular since opening up a block from the ocean. The food’s darned good, but after nearly a year of hard work, they’re about to take things to the next level by offering the beers of their new, on-site brewhouse, Amplified Ale Works. Brewer Cy Henley is using techniques picked up working at acclaimed East County brewery, Alpine Beer Co., to craft this flagship first-out IPA, which is low on imposing bitterness and high on hop-driven fruitiness. Amarillo and Citra bring on a luscious botanical forwardness that’s elevated care of heavy dry-hopping with Simcoe. It goes to show how solid training can make even the newest operation one to be reckoned with.

With a second-story view of the Pacific and more space devoted to its outdoor beer garden than indoor seating, there are few better spots to simultaneously enjoy craft beer and a sunny day in San Diego. Help them celebrate Amplified’s debut with Mayor Jerry Sanders tonight at 6 p.m. Not into IPAs? No problem. Henley also has a light Belgian called Leggy Blonde and a long list of beers that will appear on the menu board in coming months, including a double IPA, mega-dry-hopped pale ale and a cocoa hazelnut porter.
