The Embarcadero Marina Park will host the red carpet World Premiere of Star Trek Beyond in IMAX. Stars of the film will be on hand to introduce it and the San Diego Symphony will be performing the score live. To receive tickets you will need to have a badge or a valid barcode for any day, and line-up at the park’s box office starting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday where a drawing will start at noon. Once there, get in line to pick a ticket out of a container. The winning tickets will have a distinct stamp on the back. Once a winning ticket has been drawn, the ticket will be exchanged for two wristbands that will admit you and a guest into the World Premiere of Star Trek Beyond that night. Both people wishing to attend the screening must be in attendance at the time of the drawing.
The MTV Fandom Awards return to Petco Park on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy free food, drinks, games, giveaways, and more. The event is only open to those with Comic-Con badges. The night will include the tapping of the awards ceremony, along with live musical performance.
Inside the Convention Center on Thursday, basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar makes a special appearance to launch his new comic book, Mycroft Holmes: The Apocalypse Handbook—which debuts exclusively at Comic-Con with a special variant cover—at a panel discussion from 12-1 p.m. in room 5AB. Abdul-Jabbar, along with series artist Joshua Cassara will reveal exclusive and insider information about the brand new standalone comic book adventure that uncovers the secrets of the elder Holmes brother. Also, each audience member will receive an exclusive show art card.
The Her Universe Fashion Show, the ultimate runway for fan-girl fashion, returns to Comic-Con on Thursday night at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel Harbor Ballroom. This year, 27 amazing designers have been selected to compete in what organizers call the “geek couture” fashion show. The winner will get the opportunity to design a fashion collection with the fashion company and lifestyle brand Her Universe and be sold exclusively at leading pop culture retailer Hot Topic.
In Hall H on Thursday from 10-11:30 am., DreamWorks is bringing the cast of the new animated movie Trolls. Moderated by Chris Hardwick, actors Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, along with director Mike Mitchell, co-director Walt Dohrn, and producer Gina Shay will give attendees a preview of the movie and answer questions from the audience.
Friday
If you want to see the superstars from some of the biggest television shows, you should plan on camping out in Hall H all day. Starting at 12 p.m., the leading cast and executive producers from AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead will take the stage. The panel, moderated by Chris Hardwick, will discuss where the series left off in May’s finale and what to look forward to when it picks up in August. There will also be a Q&A session and an official sneak preview of the second half of season 2. Right after, the cast from The Walking Dead will get in front of fans to talk about the shocking finale of season 6 and a sneak peek into season 7, debuting in October.
At 2:15 p.m., Hall H will host the Game of Thrones panel discussion and Q&A session. Cast slated to attend include John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei, Conleth Hill as Varys, Faye Marsay as The Waif, Hannah Murray as Gilly, Kristian Nairn as Hodor, Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, and Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark.
Game of Thrones fans will also not want to miss the House of Black and White Hall of Faces experience. HBO returns to their usual site at 628 L Street (across from the Omni Hotel) from Thursday-Sunday all day starting at 11 a.m. Fans will have their portrait taken and a custom app will render their Hall of Faces portrait and display the image onto one of the towers within the space using digital displays and experiential effects. After adding their likeness to the Hall of Faces, attending fans can peer into Melisandre’s Flames which features OC Dream hologram technology. Fans can also claim a seat on the Iron Throne, pose with Arya’s sword and see costumes from Arya, Jaqen H’ghar, and the Waif. In addition, the first 500 attendees each day will receive a free Funko Pop! Figure and a poster created exclusively for Comic-Con by artist Robert Ball. The Hall of Faces is open on a first-come, first-serve basis to members of the public with a valid 2016 Comic-Con badge.
At 3:45 p.m. in Hall H, aficionados of Joss Whedon will get a chance to ask him what is next on his plate and get exclusive insight into Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity and more.
At 6:30 p.m. in Hall H, AMC’s Preacher executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg join comic book co-creator and series co-executive producer Garth Ennis and members of the cast including Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Ian Colletti, and Graham McTavish, in a panel moderated by Kevin Smith, to discuss the first season of the hit series. The panelists will perform a live reading of the newest episode, followed by a Q&A session.
Saturday
Hall H is also going to be a popular habitat on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m., with Warner Bros. Pictures showcasing several of its most-anticipated upcoming feature films including Wonder Woman,Suicide Squad, The LEGO Batman Movie, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Kong: Skull Island.
From 2-3 p.m. in Hall H, there will be a panel discussion and Q&A session on Star Trek, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first broadcast.
At 3:15 p.m. in Hall H, writer/director James Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd join cast members Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Michael Biehn, and Paul Reiser for a look back at the iconic science fiction classic in honor of the 30th anniversary of the movie Alien.
At 4:30 p.m., Entertainment Weekly hosts a panel discussion and Q&A Session titled Women Who Kick Ass. Actresses Morena Baccarin (Gotham), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Lucy Lawless (Ash vs Evil Dead), Tatian Maslany (Orphan Black), Connie Nielsen (Wonder Woman) and Ming-Na Wen (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will open up about the power and privilege of playing women that redefine the rules and refuse to yield.
At 5:30 p.m., Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige and special guests provide an inside look at the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And closing out Hall H, like he has for the last few years, Kevin Smith at 7 p.m. will tell silly stories and talk about his new movie Yoga Hosers, AMC’s Men and Geeking Out, directing an episode of The Flash for The CW, his forthcoming Buckaroo Banzai adaptation, and the Mallrats sequel that’s going to be a TV series.
For those millennials who grew up watching Nickelodeon in the 90s will get a blast from the past with a panel discussion and Q&A session with the cast from All That and Legends of the Hidden Temple in Room 6A from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Josh Server, Danny Tamberelli, Lori Beth Denberg, and Kel Mitchell will discuss all things All That, with a few added surprises. Plus, get the first look at Nick’s new TV movie based on Legends of the Hidden Temple and hear about it from returning cast members Kirk Fogg and Dee Bradley Baker, and other panelists.
Also Saturday, don’t miss your chance to get an autograph and picture with the cast of Suicide Squad when they make their appearance at the DC booth from 1:15-2:00 p.m. Cast members will include Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delvingne, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara. Fans of Fox’s action packed dramas Prison Break and 24 will want to be in Hall H at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Robert Knepper, and producers Vaun Wilmott and Michael Horowitz will greet fans and share their behind-the-scenes experiences from set and show a special sneak peek of all new footage. The panel continues with Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Miranda Otto (Homeland, Lord of the Rings), and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy, Star Wars: Episodes II &III), who join the creators/producers of the original 24—Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, and Evan Katz—for a special fan presentation of the highly anticipated new series.
The last day of the Con is mostly kid-friendly, and this year the major attraction is Pokémon GO. At 1:45 p.m. in Hall H, Niantic founder John Hanke will examine the past, present, and future of extending games beyond the screen and re-imagining reality through the lens of Ingress and Pokémon GO. And of course many expect a special Pokémon character to be released to attendees of this panel.
Sunday is also the best day to get the best deal on comics, toys, clothing, television shows, movies, drawings, and anything else for sale inside the exhibitor hall because most exhibitors do not want to pack up their merchandise and haul it back to their storefront in their hometown.
Parking will be extremely hard to find, and expensive if you do ($30-100) in and around downtown, so I would recommend taking a taxi, public transportation, or use a ride sharing service such as Uber, Lyft, or Flywheel.
In addition, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and Uber are partnering and offering a one-time discount of $5 for uberPOOL riders who utilize its service to arrive or depart from 20 MTS Transit Centers.

The inland North County community of Rancho Santa Fe is often associated with wealth. It’s one of San Diego’s most expensive residential markets and is consistently ranked one of the highest-income zip codes in California and the U.S. Rancho Santa Fe is known for its large equestrian community including riding facilities and horse trails, as well as its country club lifestyle and associated golf courses.
At the center of this luxury master-planned community is a small, walkable downtown area referred to as the “village,” with The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe acting as both a landmark and social hub. Growing up in Carlsbad, I never quite understood why people vacationed there. What, so you want to check out the field where I have soccer practice? Pay my orthodontist a visit? Carlsbad just felt like a town by the beach, no better or worse than any other in the country. It took going to college out of state for me to actually understand just how rare a place like Carlsbad is.
Thanksgiving break my freshman year, my first time coming home after three months in the Midwest, my shoulders dropped. I rolled down the windows and drove to lifeguard tower 37—the hangout magnet for Carlsbad’s youths (and, in the summer, tourists)—and the smells of the ocean woke me right up like smelling salts do. I finally got it.
Carlsbad isn’t just a stopover town on your way to something better. It is the destination. Travel + Leisure named Carlsbad one of the top 50 places around the world to travel in 2026. From the whole globe, the travel magazine picked my home. Sure, we’ve got the Flower Fields and Legoland—but now it’s the smaller ships and indier dreams that are giving it street-level character.
It’s not just Carlsbad, either. People have talked about the “North County bubble” for decades—a force field that prevents its residents from traveling south of the 56. It’s often used derogatorily, and it’s a fairly accurate burn.
For decades, living up in North County meant giving up on culture, or at least culture within close proximity. But now, the main expansion of San Diego culture is happening up north. Central San Diego restaurants have started taking notice and are expanding into the area—spurred no doubt by Oceanside’s food boom and the Jeune et Jolie–Campfire–Wildland–Lilo constellation in Carlsbad. City Heights burger joint Key & Cleaver opened a new spot in Oceanside; the owners of Parc Bistro-Brasserie in Bankers Hill opened Parc Lounge in Rancho Santa Fe. Possibly the strongest market indicator is that Sam Fox—one of the most successful restaurateurs west of the Rockies—has started focusing on North County for his concepts. In 2025, he opened both The Henry in Carlsbad and Culinary Dropout in Del Mar.

San Marcos
San Marcos is in full renaissance mode. The biggest story is that the grand North City vision is starting to peek through the scaffolding. It’s essentially the North County Downtown that’s been written in the tea leaves and discussed whenever someone gets stuck in traffic at the 5/805 merge: a 200-acre, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use face-changer that’s slated for 2,600 homes, 350,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 250 hotel rooms, and about a million square feet of offices and labs. Its most recent manifestation is 222 North City—a 12-story residential tower with over 450 residences, rooftop garden, pool cabanas, art installations, and almost 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail (Necessity Coffee, Buona Forchetta, Draft Republic, Milonga Empanadas, and a grocery store anchor on its way).
Which means Restaurant Row is no longer burdened with being the primary caregiver for the hungry or the socially inclined. Patricia Prado-Olmos has watched the city morph during her nearly three-decade tenure at CSUSM, having spent the past six years as the school’s chief community engagement officer. She also just announced her forthcoming retirement at the end of the 2026–2027 school year, so she’ll have even more time to haunt local haunts.
Meet the Local: Patricia Prado-Olmos
Those in the know call the university “Cal State StairMaster” from the Sisyphean amount of stairs on the hillside campus. So, any day at or around CSUSM should start with a homestyle carbo-load (biscuits and gravy) from Mama Kat’s.
“There’s something about this breakfast spot that immediately puts me in a good mood,” she says. Mama Kat’s is also known for its pie (strawberry-rhubarb), which is breakfast if you change your perspective.
After a few hours on campus—with a break to pet the university’s official therapy goldendoodle, Frank, who helps ease finals tremors or apprehension of on-campus stairs—Prado-Olmos will wander into North City, just steps away. She says the almond croissant and coffee at Christophe Rull Patisserie rival Parisian cafés: “It feels like the kind of place you’d stumble across in a much bigger city.”
Rull, a Michelin-trained pastry chef who’s done stints on Netflix (Bake Squad) and Food Network (Super Mega Cakes, Halloween Wars), opened his patisserie last fall. The hype hasn’t cooled off yet: Get there early because the crowds do.

Just south of Lake Hodges near 4S Ranch and Poway, Rancho Bernardo is a suburban community that blends residential neighborhoods with industrial pockets, elevated by a decidedly diverse food scene.
Over 60 years ago, this North County neighborhood was once part of a family ranch. Since that time, big tech companies have taken up residence here, including Amazon, Sony Electronics, Oura Ring, HP, Teradata, and ASML. This summer, Los Angeles will host eight matches of the FIFA World Cup at Los Angeles Stadium, including the US Men’s National Team opener on June 11, while the region stretches into 39 days of programming across stadiums, parks, transit hubs, beaches, and neighborhoods. Instead of one massive fan hub, Los Angeles is embracing a citywide celebration, with fan zones spread across its entirety.
But this pattern has been rehearsed here for decades. In 1994, Southern California became one of the defining stages of the World Cup, when matches at the Rose Bowl placed global attention on the region and turned local stadiums into international landmarks, confirming its ability to hold the world at scale.
What distinguishes Southern California is not just infrastructure, but cultural permeability. Fashion, music, film, art, and sport constantly overlap here, creating an environment where identity is flexible and always in motion. From the Venice boardwalk, where skate culture shaped modern street style, to global soccer stars rubbing shoulders with Hollywood celebs, to authentic Spanish cuisine moving up and down the I-5 corridor, everything circulates.

Los Angeles Union Station
As the heart of Los Angeles, Union Station is an official Fan Zone June 25-28 during the World Cup, but in practice it never really stops being one.
It is the city’s circulation point, its meeting ground, its pressure valve. Commuters, travelers, match-day crowds, and everyday Angelenos all move through the same space, and everything mixes, overlaps, and scales in real time. In a way, this is where the World Cup stops arriving in Los Angeles and starts moving through it.
The Pacific Surfliner from San Diego to Los Angeles makes that shift feel almost too easy. No stress or gridlock anxiety, just a straight line up the coastline with ocean on one side and everything slowly becoming more built on the other. It’s one of the rare ways into LA that doesn’t feel like arrival as friction. You can sit with a laptop, watch the Pacific drift past, grab coffee from the café car, and let the city come to you in pieces.
That’s the beauty of arriving at Union Station. Instead of feeling like you’re on the edge of the city, you’re immediately surrounded by it. ROW DTLA feels like the first exhale after arrival. A converted industrial campus turned creative district where restaurants, retail, and open-air courtyards form a self-contained ecosystem. If you’re looking for the perfect first meal in LA, make it lunch at Pizzeria Bianco. The thin-crust pizza is reason enough to go, but the space leaves just as much of an impression.
What I liked most about ROW DTLA is how quickly it resets you after the train. One minute you are stepping off at Union Station, and the next you are in a space that feels like its own version of LA, a city inside a city with some of the most curated shopping I’ve ever seen.
Bodega hides itself behind a convenience-store front, a sneaker and streetwear space disguised as something ordinary, like LA refusing to make anything feel too obvious. The whole campus moves like that, part retail, part gallery, part neighborhood you are only temporarily inside.

Belmont Parkis rolling out a Father’s Day lineup that basically turns Mission Beach into a living garage scene, with a free car show featuring everything from polished 1960s Camaros to classic Bel Airs and lowriders. If he has a ride of his own, vintage car owners can join the lineup for $35 per vehicle. After the chrome tour, it’s straight into a Mission Beach classic: boardwalk strolls, fish tacos on the sand, and rides at Belmont Park.

Bob Dylan at The Rady Shell
I think it’s an unspoken rule that dads love Bob Dylan. Mine is already figuring out how he’s getting to San Diego for this. But this isn’t just a Father’s Day activity, it’s a cultural event that happens to land on Father’s Day weekend and immediately becomes the plan. Bob Dylan at The Rady Shell means you’ll be surrounded by city lights sparkling across the harbor, legacy music, and at least one moment where Dad leans over and whispers, “You know, this guy wrote everything.” And honestly? He’s not wrong.

The San Diego County Fair returns with fried everything, questionable decisions, rides that definitely looked safer in the 2000s, and Dad’s very confident plan to “just walk around for an hour” that somehow turns into an entire day. It’s also the biggest, longest-running community event in San Diego County, running Wednesday, June 10 through Sunday, July 5, with a “Once Upon a Fair” theme. It basically becomes part of the Father’s Day season whether you planned it or not. So, consider this your annual reminder that “happily ever after” can, in fact, involve Cajun honey dogs, cinnamon rolls, a Ferris wheel you swore you wouldn’t go on, and Dad somehow knowing exactly which booth has the best Spam wonton tacos.
