(Park)ing Day Transformed Downtown Parking Spots into Public Parks

This past Friday, Park(ing) Day in San Diego involved 12 uniquely designed spaces across downtown, the Gaslamp Quarter, and East Village, as part of a one-day worldwide event.

In front of the EVA/ Moniker Warehouse at 705 16th Street was the Rob Nelson Parklet, complete with benches, an herb garden, tables, chairs, and Hacky Sack.

Underground Elephant designed this outdoor camping and picnic space in front of its new office at 808 J Street. The area takes its theme from the new office, which has living trees, wood fixtures all around, and racoon taxidermy at the reception desk!

Switchboard Games set up a variety of activities for those having some caffeine in front of Lion Coffee or just wanting to work outside.

The staff at LdG Landscape Architects designed an urban mini park at 400 E Street, complete with recycled and reclaimed wood, cardboard rolls for blueprints, drought tolerant plants, paper, and cement blocks. 

Emmes set up games in the park(ing) space of 701 B St, with Connect Four, Tic-Tac-Toe, and giant Jenga.

Groom the Salon set up shop in front of their storefront at 1136 7th Ave, giving haircuts. Gregg Measom was enjoying the sun while stylist Nea Muller was cutting some fresh looks for the weekend.

Yoga One gave free lessons at 1150 7th Ave. Anjanae Coughlin and Caitlin McPhee were two of the students taking in some Zen.

The Home Depot and the Irving Co. dressed up a couple of parking spaces at 401 B St. They built wooden benches, flower pots, and laid out carpet grass for those working in the area to gather and meet new people on their break.
