San Diego Veterans Day Guide 2018

From drink deals to barbecues, parades, and public art, here's eight ways to salute our veterans for the national holiday

Veterans and active military can cruise San Diego Bay for free aboard one of Hornblower’s one- or two-hour sails.

HWN Veteran Donation Health Event

Join the Health and Wealth Network at Nobel Athletic Field in providing donations such as pillows, toothbrushes, clothing, food, and more to homeless veterans in San Diego. Top it off with a barbecue following the event, and consider it a day well spent.

Salute To Service

Bottoms up to transgender service members at Uptown Tavern, as Equality California and Coors Light honor veterans Zander Keig and Veronica Zerre and active service member Akira Wyatt as part of MillerCoors’s Tap Into Change program, which partners with local bars and restaurants to donate a percentage of sales to LGBTQ nonprofits. Every attendee receives a complimentary Coors upon entry.

San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival

The 15th annual celebration of food, wine, and culture is offering discounts to veterans and active-duty military during the Pitmaster’s Veterans Day Barbecue, complete with lawn games, wine and beer, and chargrilled goodness at Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa.

The San Diego Museum of Art

SDMA’s outdoor community event On the Steps commemorates the centennial of the World War I armistice with the exhibit Artists at War: American Posters of World War I. In On the Steps fashion, the premiere will combine live performances and activities that complement the special exhibition on view—artwork and presentations by local veterans’ groups, the Air and Space Museum, and Westwind Brass.

USS Midway Museum

Anchors aweigh! The USS Midway is giving free admission to active military, veterans, and up to four family members all weekend long.

Veterans Day Parade

See over 4,000 veterans, active-duty military, bands, floats, and civic groups celebrate the holiday during the 32nd annual San Diego Veterans Day Parade. The theme this year will be “Lift Your Voice for Veterans,” recognizing contributions by veterans to their communities and country.
