An Oktoberfest, a Street Fair, and a Film Festival Come to San Diego

Dozens of independent films, oodles of free music, and even bratwurst-eating competitions. There's a lot to choose from to make the most of this week.

Indoor and outdoor entertainment, free music, and more beer than you can shake a stein at—there’s plenty going on this week and this weekend.

GI Film Festival

Where: Museum of Photographic Arts and UltraStar Cinemas Mission Valley at Hazard Center

When: September 25-30

Lace up your boots for this six-day long military film festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival consists of 34 documentaries, shorts, and other films “for, by or about our service members and veterans.” Nine of the films are in their world premiere, with more debuting on the West Coast for the first time. La Mesa Oktoberfest

Where: La Mesa

When: September 28-30

Even if you haven’t been training for stein-holding, bratwurst-eating, and keg-rolling competitions, you can still enjoy San Diego’s biggest Oktoberfest—with an expected 100,000 visitors—kicking off this Friday. The free three-day all ages fest also boasts Weiner dog races, a Ferris wheel, two beer gardens, and 50 food vendors.

Adams Avenue Street Fair

Where: Adams Avenue between 32nd and 35th streets

When: September 29-30

Normal Heights will be rocking this weekend with 80 musical acts on six stages—all of it free—and a ton of food, carnival rides, games, and more. Four beer gardens will feature the likes of Green Flash, Stone Brewing, Mission Brewery, and Goose Island, while 300 exhibitors sell food, crafts, and other things.
