Where to Go: Parties and Events on Thursday
Quadruple-book yourself—here’s what’s happening around town
Posted Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 06:30AM
As an editor for San Diego Magazine, people often ask me how I can possibly attend every single event, party, and opening around town. Well, the answer is, sadly, I don’t. There’s only one of me (well, only one Meanley—there are two Erins). This Thursday evening is particularly crowded.
I’m excited to be co-hosting the private opening of the new Ann Taylor concept store in Fashion Valley (RSVPs already closed!).
But here’s what else is going on the same evening, in case you’re not joining me at Ann Taylor, and you find yourself with a free Thursday night.
Fashion that Heals
The Tri-City Hospital Foundation will host a cocktail reception, silent auction, and runway show featuring fashion from Saks Fifth Avenue (South Coast Plaza). For tickets, call the Tri-City Hospital Foundation at (760) 940-3370.

The Human Beast: German Expressionism
The preview and Circle Opening of SDMA’s exhibition will feature works of art from a sizeable bequest ($40 mil!) of 48 German Expressionist paintings, drawings, and prints, plus nine oil paintings from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art in Madrid.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s 75th Anniversary Party
The racing community and its fans will converge at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park (why not the Track??). A Bing Crosby impersonator will be in attendance as well! (Read about our "Track Stars" here.)

Grand Opening of Art of Skin MD
Dr. Melanie Palm's brand new center will host live music, food from Woody's and Cupcake Love, a gift bag, and plenty of bubbly. Head to Carlsbad for live music from Mad Traffic, at the Flying Elephant Pub and Grill. Thursday’s food special is 2-for-$5 bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Mmm!

Rock the Cure
An outdoor concert benefiting Type 1 Diabetes research. Oops! This one is invitation only! Takes place at a private home! But the cause is one we should all support!
