Lafayette Hotel’s Grand Reopening
Welcome to the newly redone classic

Last night, I went to the grand reopening of the Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club in North Park. It’s a neat little spot that looks like a giant Colonial manse from the front, and then surprises you with rooms that are each very unique and whimsically-decorated. We took a tour of the guest rooms and bungalows, which have been redone and updated with flat screen TVs and iPod speakers. One three-bedroom suite was itself an adorable little house and the price was extremely right.
Locals can look forward to regular pool parties with dive-in movies (and yes, you can bring your drink into the pool). On the weekends, they have cocktail waitresses dressed as pin-up girls.
The bar and resto is cute as a button, and the lobby pays tribute to its old-school Hollywood history. The ballroom below is the site of a former cabaret venue and a bar—where Top Gun’s “She’s Lost That Loving Feeling” scene was filmed.
