Yoga in the Garden

Lux Art Institute's backyard is the new studio

By Erin Meanley Glenny

A number of San Diego businesses are opening their doors to yoga classes on weekend mornings. Green Flash Brewing Company in Mira Mesa offers yoga, and now so does Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. Its inaugural Yoga in the Garden session began last April on International Slow Art Day, which promotes the practice of looking slowly at art in order to make discoveries. The event was a hit, and regular Saturday classes at Lux began in September. The class is timed so that attendees can go right into the exhibition, post-sesh.

In addition to the mind and body benefits of yoga, the practice can also up your art appreciation. With the instructors putting a focus on creativity and meditation, students have said that yoga puts them in a more open state of mind to view the art. (Look for special Slow Art Saturdays, once per artist residency or exhibition, and Slow Art Day on April 11, 2015) Saturdays, 10 a.m.–11 a.m.; members $10; $15 for non-members. 1550 South El Camino Real, Encinitas
